Doh! no-1802.com doesn't work on T43!

#1 Post by GnatGoSplat » Thu May 17, 2007 7:23 pm

I wanted to replace the 2200BG Mini PCI card in my T43 with an Atheros a/b/g card, so I ran no-1802.com and I was still getting the 1802 error! I even ran it 3 times and re-downloaded it twice.

Did I do something wrong, or is no-1802 just not compatible with T43s?

The hack does not work if you run it fom within windows. You have to download the bootable CD version of it ...
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

I booted to DOS from my USB flash drive.
I did find one other post here from a T43p user that couldn't get it to work either.

I have not read anyone got no-1802 to work on T43. Lenovo changed that part of BIOS in T43.

I got it to work. I discovered my Atheros card has the same PCI ID as an IBM branded one. In fact, identical except for the SUBSYS ID. So I put the card in my Mini PC. Then I burned a CD with "PuppyLinux", booted it and ran lspci to get a base address. Lastly, I ran idchanger and changed the SUBSYS to 04081468 to match the IBM card of the same PCI ID.

No more 1802 error. Vista automatically loaded drivers. However, I discovered after all that trouble that the card won't connect to my Super G router at 108Mbps. Transfer rates on battery power also weren't as good as the original 2200BG card for some reason. Also, the wireless LED wouldn't work with the Atheros card. I updated to a newer driver I found and it didn't help. Then I used Windows update to update to a yet newer driver and still no difference. I ended up switching back to the original card.

Hi

As I know..that very famous no1802.com makes some changes in BIOS..but unfortune that doesn't work on T43..that's sad..so I thought about something like that:

that we need to know exactly what changes are made in BIOS by no1802.com..so we need clean-no-modified BIOS(from T42)..and same BIOS after changes..
then we can compare sectors and then we will know what to do

and here I will need ThinkPads.com users help..if someone could email me that BIOSes or upload them to some place then when I will have a free time I could do some resarches

What do you think about that :?:

Please write your oppinion..

I think I read something that the change is actually made to CMOS and the BIOS checks for a specific byte in CMOS. If it finds it, then it will bypass the check.
So what you would need is a before and after snapshot of the CMOS.

In fact, the no-1802.com source code is available so you can see exactly which byte he is changing. However, who knows if the T43 even checks for that byte in the CMOS anymore? IBM could have added some code to say "never check status of that byte".

The author was apparently able to disassemble the BIOS to discover it checks a byte in CMOS.

the No-1802 (implemented from boot .iso) hack didn't work on my T43 when I tried it back in Mar '06, either.

as We know no1802.com doesn't work on T43..but it works great on T42..and here is the problem..I have T43 not T42..so we need BIOSes and CMOSes before changes sectors and after changes..
