Battery Locks

#1 Post by mrxle3 » Fri May 18, 2007 12:05 pm

Hi guys. I brought my laptop in about a month ago to fix a fan error, and they returned it to me a few days later. However, I noticed that one of the battery locks on the underside of my laptop has gone missing (specifficaly, the one at the bottom left of the battery). I brought this to the technician's attention, and he ordered me a new lock replacement. However, they refuse to fix it for me! I called IBM today and they told me that they actually have to replace the ENTIRE underside. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I have the lock with me, but I have no clue how to install it. Any help would be great. I own a t42 2378fvu.

It depends on what piece is actually broken. The spring and the latch can be replaced separately, but I don't think it can be ordered separately. If I need to replace a latch, I take one off a busted case. I'm not sure which one you mean be "the left". It depends on which side you have facing you, but I assume you mean the one with the spring. I believe you need to replace either latch from inside, which means removing the motherboard from the case. If it is the latch with the spring, is it possible that the spring is inside somewhere? I would be afraid of it shorting something out.
