A question about Win Vista and T42?

#1 Post by silo » Sat May 19, 2007 1:23 am

I installed Win Vista on a new Hitachi 7200RPM 80G drive in my T42.

Now I don't have ANY of the IBM/Lenovo software on my machine, and, of course, no Rescue and Recovery partition.

Should I get the Thinkvantage etc. software from Lenovo and put it on this Vista install? Is the Thinkvantage (and other IBM/Lenovo software) all Vista-capable and Vista-ready?

Where can I get this stuff? Lenovo?

Thanks for all advice--

Why don't you just install software installer? It will get to you all the stuff and drivers you need.

Thanks. Will do all that.

What I was wondering was whether getting the Thinkpad software was really required (ie, without it am I losing functionality).

Or whether it was just "a good idea".

Or whetehr it was considered by some a blessing to be without.

Good luck!
Carbon U--

Thanks for the links. Will go and poke around. Is it your view that getting the Thinkpad software is a good idea, or could you comfortably live without it?

And is it all Vista-updated?

Thx.

By the "software installer" do you mean the ThinkVantage System Update?

Or something else entirely?

Thanks.

cmarti is right. Software installer will install the right things for your situation. It is the easiest way to go.
I would install the drivers but whether or not to install the Thinkvantage software is your choice. Some of the software may have advantages for you and it may not. Personally I don't need very much of the Thinkvantage suite.

I think that does not work with Wndows Vista. The "ThinkVantage System Update" version 3 is said (on Lenovo site) to be the replacement for Software Installer.

I guess I'm wondering about the ThinkVantage Suite that Carbon talks about in the previous msg.

How do I get that for Vista?

Honestly I think your better off installing the drivers one at a time and making sure your system still works afterwards, there is a lot of drivers you won't really need, by no means am I telling you how to do your install, but this is has worked perfectly for me with a vanilla install of vista business.
