X60s and HSDPA card

#1 Post by pdudas » Sat May 19, 2007 9:06 am

Hi!

I have an X60s without wwan card.
There is no MINI-PCI-EXPRESS socket beside the WLAN card and no SIM socket under the ram cover.

I got a Novatel EU 740 HSDPA card.
http://www.novatelwireless.com/products ... eu740.html

I can order a dislpay cover and the needed antenna (and everything from Lenovo spare stock handler) and I can solder the missing sockets to the mainboard (mini-pci-e and SIM).

Will it work or is there another parts missing from the mainboard (resistor, transistor, .....IC)? Did anyone tried this?

Its a shame that I cannot buy X60s with HSDPA card in Europe... :(

EU740 won't be recognized by X60s BIOS and you will get 1802 unauthorized wireless card error which stops the boot process.

Isn't this a Euro X60s that has Vodafone 3G/UMTS built in?

I installed the HSDPA module into the wlan slot. Nothing happens. The system booted, but there was no new device, and even the installed software doesnt found the card.

Unfortunately the card works well in a Dell notebook...

It's known that WWAN card does not work in the WLAN card slot, even if it's Lenovo branded Vodafone/Cingular/Verizon WWAN card.

You need a Lenovo branded WWAN card as BIOS checks the device IDs. You can find the GSM/HSDPA WWAN card FRUs for Vodafone/Cingular here:

Sorry, I didn't quite understand. Your first para says that even Lenovo-branded WWAN cards do not work in a WLAN slot. Your second para says that I need a Lenovo-branded WWAN card? Can you please clarify? Thanks.

As well, if my x60s did not ship with WWAN, does that mean there is no WWAN slot? Thx.

It's simple. You need a Lenovo WWAN card in the WWAN slot for it to work.

X60s models without WWAN card may not come with the WWAN slot. You might need to remove the keyboard bezel to tell for sure.
