How to get ThinkVantage Suite for T42 w/ Vista?

#1 Post by silo » Sat May 19, 2007 4:54 pm

I installed Vista on a new 80G 7200RPM drive in my T42.

Now I'm trying to get all the IBM/Lenovo software that I had previously--the special software for setting up network connections, for turning on and off various services on the T42, etc.

There were about 8-10 programs some under IBM Access and some under Thinkvantage on my old machine.

I've installed System Update which installed about 5 things including PC Doctor, Active Protection, and a couple others I don't remember from the list. The rest of the IBM/Lenovo stuff is still MIA.

Are you not supposed to use that stuff with Vista? Or have I just gone to the wrong place to get it. I installed Software Installer, but that said it was for Win2000/XP and nothing about Vista. And on Lenovo site it says that Software Installer has been replaced by ThinkVantage System Update 3, which I believe I already have.

When I run Sys Update it says I don't have any required updates, I have one optional update (presentation director), and then I have a few "Extras" which appear to be ads for other goods and servies.

Which way to turn next?

Some of those utilities aren't availble for Vista, like ThinkPad Configuration (where you get all your baby's details).

In Vista you'll lack 2 or 3 of them. Anyways, if you don't use them stay with what you get. It works.

Some of those utilities aren't recognized by System Update and you can download and install the winxp version. I don't recommend it unless you're sure you'll need them.
