14" WSXGA+ vs 14" SXGA+ squint factor?

#1 Post by dbonds » Sat May 19, 2007 6:25 pm

I spent quite a bit of time researching screen resolutions before getting my 14" SXGA+ T42. All in all, I've been extremely happy with the resolution and am very glad that I didn't go with a physically larger screen or with a less dense resolution.

Three years later, I'm eyeballing the T61s and particularly the rumored 14" WSXGA+ model. I definitely value portability and fortunately would prefer WS for my purposes (hopefully with camera). The thing I'm wondering about is whether the 14" WSXGA+ would be too much for me vs. going with a 15.4". Has anyone seen this resolution in person? possibly on a model that might be found in a brick and mortar store? I imagine this is a fairly personal/subjective judgement, but any information that might help a person to compare would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Daniel

There aren't any 14.1" WSXGA+ displays yet, so no one has seen one, but we can still compare pixel densities:

14.1" SXGA+ = 124.1 dots per inch
14.1" WSXGA+ = 140.5 DPI
15.4" WSXGA+ = 128.6 DPI
15.4" WUXGA = 147 DPI

I use a 15.4" WUXGA laptop everyday and find it perfectly acceptable, so, at least for me, I wouldn't have any problem with 14.1" WSXGA+.
