Lenono add-in CPwmIEBrowserHelper kills IE7 performance

#1 Post by yobyot » Sun May 20, 2007 11:13 am

I had an annoying delay in opening new windows and/or tabs in IE7. Then, I disabled this add-in and performance vastly improved.

Does anyone know what CPwmIEBrowserHelper does?

Bad, bad, Lenovo.

Everyone,

Sorry for posting to an old topic, but I have a specific question on the CPwmIEBrowserHelper Object.

While I have figured out that it is ThinkVantage Password Manager, and it is installed from the Client Security Solutions application, I just wanted to make sure I understood all that I have been seeing.

If I understand everyone correctly, all this object does is allow you to manager your passwords inside of IE? So, if you disable this add-in, is that the only functionally you are loosing?

The reason I ask is that there is a web site that my office uses, and with this enabled, they can only do a given task 3 or 4 times before IE6 "hangs". If they disable this plug-in, then the problem goes away.

Short version of how this started is that users at my office were using T42/T43's and did not have any problems going to the web site in question. Once they were upgraded with a T61, they had problems. After much testing, we narrowed it down to this plug-in.

By the way, we are still running Version 7.x of the CSS, and version 3.x of RNR. I saw a few posts on here that there is a newer version of both, and that RNR 4 is needed to go to CSS 8.x. We may look into that in the future, but right now, we need to solve the problem that the users are having.

Thanks,

this is another reason I removed 90% of the pre-installed lenovo software from vista. I expected better from them than "pulling a sony".

I had the same problem with this plugin and disable the plugin solved the problem. Anyway i found password manager to use a lot of resources and found it better to not use password manager at all.
To answer BrianPlencner's question the only function that won't work is using password manager for websites if you disable the plugin.
