T22 MOBO replacement....HELP!!

#1 Post by Phazer » Mon May 21, 2007 12:44 am

OK...before I start yelling at the eBay seller that I got this from, I need a couple of questions answered.

Original problem was not holding CMOS date or time, (found broken solder joint)(gonna try to repair).

1. I did not write down nor access the serial number or UUID.

2. Put the used MOBO in and get the date/time error. I wait for the next screen to come up and a little picture of a padlock shows up.

3. Does this have a bios/admin password in it?

4. Or did I cause this by not running the Hardware Maintenance Disk and getting that info before hand?

Icon is of a "computer" with a "padlock" beside it. I've tried most of the common passwords including "merlin".

P.S. If this is something I caused, I just want to know, if it was on there when bought from eBay, I'll pursue that option. I'm not trying to crack the password if it was on there when I bought it.

That's certainly not your doing. That PW was there already when you got it!

One more quick question. The HMM indicates that this is the POP password and not a SVP, does this sound correct?

I think the POP and BIOS password screens look the same; a picture of a lock with a "computer" along the left side. If it was a POP, then removing the backup (CMOS) battery will disable it. If the lock screen is still there after that, then it's a BIOS (SVP) password.

Ya wanna hear God laugh......just mention my name..... :(

Thanks....I'll pursue the eBay "I want my money back" route...happy, happy, joy, joy...

At least I found the problem on the original MOBO, the CMOS connector is broken loose. I'm gonna try to solder that back on. Looks like piece-O-cake because it slides onto a retainer which holds it in the proper postition.

Well........haven't heard back from the eBay seller, I'll pursue that at a later date.

Took the T22 apart, (AGAIN), broke the hinge cover and the ultrabay 2000 guide rail, (life stinks sometime)(just sold my spare guide rail....aarrgghhhh), bought a kit on eBay that had everything in it, OEM accessory kit.
After three attempts, got the CMOS battery connector resoldered to the motherboard. Had to hold down on it with a pointy device while I touched the soldering iron to the surface mount contacts. Slammed the HDD, battery, CMOS, and keyboard on it and it boots up fine now, (multiple times).

WOO HOO!!!!!!!! :D
