T42p Hibernation problem

#1 Post by rob_vie » Sat Oct 09, 2004 4:35 am

hi!

I have a thinkpad t42p (2373-htu, only added the ibm a/b/g wireless card) now for a month and I have a weird problem with hibernation.

First of all, standby and hibernation work without any problem, if I use it for the first time after a clean startup. BUT

when I try do a standby/hibernation (tried both actually), the window "preparing for standby/hibernation" comes up, but nothing happens. the HDD rumbles for a couple of seconds but that's it.

Has anyone come accross such a weird behaviour before and knows a solution to this?

I am not sure if I understand the question. Do Hibernation/Standby work after startup, but after one cycle they stop working? Or did you add some HW/SW to your system and then it stopped working?
The second is much more likely, given how Windows works internally: Before you go into Hibernation/Standby it asks all device drivers, services and application if it may do so, and if only one of them objects it refuses to go into H/S. I am afraid you will need to hunt down that software and remove it. Most likely it is a device driver. Four years back, I once had the same problem, and it turned out the device driver for some add-on software I was using.
