Vista Explorer (Windows and Internet) Behavior
Vista Explorer (Windows and Internet) Behavior
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time and reading this message...
I recently purchased a T60p with Windows Vista Business preinstalled.
I am having pretty bad delays in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer. For example, when I go to save a document in Excel, it takes forever for the file browser window to come up. Another example, when I'm in Internet Explorer and open a new tab to key in a URL, that process takes forever.
Has anyone else experienced this? More interestingly, has anyone found the solution? I did a search, but imagine the number of hits with Vista Explorer delay...
Thanks for all of your help!

I'm sorry. I should have mentioned that this happened immediately out of the box, before installing any additional software. I also uninstalled a lot of the bloatware and am still incurring the same annoyance.
I'm thinking of downgrading to XP.
If anyone has a solution, please share! Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Stay using it for some days.. Wait for it to finish the images chaché, install all updates and so on. Wait for index service to finish working.
Let us know in next days.

Even when index and all that are done, the new tabs will still open slowly. I recommend Firefox 2.0 with Vista (though I prefer IE7 with XP...and if it worked snappily I'd prefer it with Vista too).

Disable addons in your IE menu and it'll be much, much faster.

I dont think blaming Microsoft or Vista is going to solve anything over here or give any clues either.
I am using IE7 on Vista business, home premium and XP ,, and it all works fine and fast. Yes Add Ons can slow you down and hoplite is right that way. Go through the list of add ons you have and you can remove many unwanted ones or manage what runs without your permission.

I have the T60-2623-D6U and have recently installed Windows Vista on it. I personally find Vista fairly snappy, although I'd say that during the initial hour or so it was fairly slow. I'm not sure if it was slow initially due to indexing, lack of defragmentation or lack of updates.
It would be helpful if you could list which processor you have, how much RAM you have and what video card you have in your laptop.
For reference, mine has 1GB of RAM, ATI x1300 and 1.8GHz Core Duo. Hopefully by describing what I did, you may be able to configure your system to your liking
What model of the T60p do you have? How much memory? Which video card? I would guess that 512MB or RAM would not be enough for Vista.
If you have a laptop similiar in configuration (or better) to mine then I would guess that you should be able to get it configured to be snappy with Aero on as well. If you post more inforrmation about your system I am sure that me or someone else will be able to help get your system running smoothly enough for Vista.

- 1. Installed Vista (from CD, not manufacturer's image)
2. Updated Vista via Wndows update (including device drivers)
3. Installed Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition.
4. Installed Pidgin
5. Installed Open Office
6. Installed Lenovo Active Protection System
7. Defragmented Vista (using standard Windows Defragger)

isn't that the truth, Microsoft did something in their new OS (Vista) where firefox will flicker bad so I am stuck with IE7. Doea anyone has this problem with Firefoxberlin wrote:Explorer is slow on Vista when opening new tabs, and hyperlinks.

I figured a fix for the firefox flickering, if the bookmark toolbar is empty firefox will flicker so put something there and it will stop flickering.

I received the free upgrade from Lenovo. My experience was that after it was finished indexing, it worked fine. I like the interface, the indexing, the Aero ui (and the fact that you can deactivate it if you so choose), and the increased security with the user control features (you could do that with xp, but you had to create two accounts, and then switch between them).
The one thing I don't like is the navigation in Windows Explorer. I like having the navigation pane on the left, and the search bar on the upper right. However, remember the pulldown menu for navigation, at the top of the page, to switchrappidly between locations? Well, it no longer works the same way. Now it only displays previous locations, either in explorer or IE, so if there's no history, it's blank! This is pretty screwy, so much so that I thought it was an installation error or something. Here's a link to this issue that I posted elsewhere.
In any event, as far as explorer being slow (the OP's original comment), how much memory do you have? This might be an issue, as Vista's minimum requirement is 1GB. I have 2, and have experienced no problems (other than a disastrous Easy Media Creator 9, which I uninstalled). I don't know what to say about the Firefox issue, as mine works like a charm. I also use Thunderbird, but I was looking at Windows Mail (succesor to Outlook Express) and it looks pretty cool.
Just my two cents. Cheerio.
