Already installed it and so far everthings seems ok. The few glitches when changing profiles seem to be fixed (AC not turning off wifi and changing default printer).

Has anyone tired this version of access connections with Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Adapter and Driver version 11.1.0.86?
This driver version is something I installed from the Intel website which is newer than the one of the lenovo site, but fixes the issue where the wireless strength cant get above 60%.
Mike.

It may be a moot point. The new version of Access Connections for XP (4.41) does not extract anywhere and therefore cannot be installed. It pretends to go through the motions, but does not ask for, or point to, an extract location and, in fact, after a thorough search, does not extract. The Vista version may be different.

I found it in a folder under my temp directory after running the .exe file ("C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp") and installed it from there and it worked without any problems.jdhurst wrote:It may be a moot point. Actually AC 4.41 require driver version 4.1.102.1095 or newer and .147 is the latest and newer then .1095.jdhurst wrote:The documentation for Windows XP says that it requires Driver 4.1.102.1095 for the IBM 11 a/b/g card. The only driver Lenovo supplies is 4.1.102.147. So I am reluctant to install this new version because of the driver mismatch.

I upgraded to AC 4.41 and everything is working fine so far, but obviously got another IBM a/b/g adapter since i use the driver version 5.3.0.25.
Thanks, but it did not go there on my machine (or anywhere that I can see). The installer in this version is defective, so I will go over to the exchange folder and report it. ... JDHWiz wrote:<snip>

I agree it's defective since it doesn't ask for a location to uncompress so it would be nice with a new installation package.jdhurst wrote:Thanks, but it did not go there on my machine (or anywhere that I can see). If you want to install it now though another option is to manually uncompress the contents of the installshield package using winrar and then run the installation. Maybe other programs similar to winrar can uncompress installshield files as well, but winzip doesn't seems to handle the format.
@wiz - Thanks for all your posts and assistance. I appreciate it.
I had noodled out that ...147 was a newer driver than ...1095 while searching for 1095. That is when I tried to install it.
But I never thought of WinRar (you are right - WinZip won't touch it). So I downloaded a trial copy of WinRar to extract Access Connections. That worked and I installed the new version 4.41. It seems to be working fine.
I guess it is time to purchase WinRar.

How long before Microsoft or Lenovo make these availabloe for download? This is a common problem for all Vista users...but I am reluctant to download from Intel until approved by the experts at MS and L.
My last experience using an Intel download/update for my video driver ended up crashing Vista and required a new installation.

Wif Intel drivers
I installed those drivers from intel a few weeks ago and they have been ok. Would be nice if IBM ever got around to it.

Sad, but i think it's better for Lenovo to wait until these drivers mature and not throw them out on the average user. Normally you like to trust your machine and not fiddle around problems.
But with vista there's not such problem getting around with those latest drivers since you can revert back to your old drivers anytime from within device manager. That's pretty good, since you can test the bleeding edge but if things don't work as expected you can go back.

In my copy of Vista Ultimate I do not have AC installed. Windows has been handling my wifi for over a month now with no problems yet. Would be there be any major advantages to installing AC now?

So far, I very much have liked what I see with Access Connections. It seems to work well. I don't know if it is BETTER, per se, then Vista's built in capabilities (which are pretty good), but I haven't had any problems yet.
I have also been able to disable AC and let Windows take back over, which I tested just to make sure. Then I gave AC control again. I'll probably use AC for a month and then switch to Vista control for a while, just to give them both a go.
