Vista changes I don't quite get (maybe there is a fix?)

#1 Post by marlinspike » Tue May 22, 2007 1:35 pm

Some very basic things changed when I went to Vista (clean install of Vista Business) that I wonder if there is some setting for or something. One is that when going into hibernate there is no progress bar, just a black screen and the moon symbol (T60) blinks until its done. Also, when turning on from a shut down there is no windows logo, during the period when the green bars go across the bottom of the screen...is that normal?

Also, there's no progress bar when defragmenting. And is there a way to make the all programs menu open out like they used to, rather than making me scroll up and down?

Hi,

All the stuff that you have mentioned in your post are new vista features!

For the programs menu, the new way -- and probably better way -- is to use the search box. Just type E-X-C etc and Vista will display all matching entries very quickly, addressing the current All Programs "pollution" issue.

Funny, the "features" are exactly what I don't like about it. I mean, I got used to everything else about Vista but those things just don't make any sense to me.

Just for the records: if those new "features" don't exist, you don't find anything new there.

They're need to show the changes and move users to the "new way"
