What to do with e-bay item...

#1 Post by SaberX » Thu May 24, 2007 1:37 pm

I just want to get peoples options on this.
This is the first time this happen to me...
On May 1st i bought this..
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... &rd=1&rd=1

I used Pay Pal to pay for it on May 1st the same time.
I only recived an e-mail saying i have "won the e-bay item"
I used the buy it now.
So far i still never recived anything from them.
Since than i have bought a few things from e-bay,even things from Hong Kong and recived that 1 week later.

I e-mailed them and thay said it was mailed out on May 2nd.
If it was i should have got it by now.

My question is if it got "lost" in the mail what can be done about it?
I know i'm going to wait a while longer and see if it shows up.But if nothing shows up what feed back would you leave the seller?
I cant leave + for them couse i never recived anything from them.
I also dont want to leave "-" feedback if it's something that was "lost" in the mail.

Generally you can file a claim with eBay that the item was not received:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/inr-snad-process.html

A dispute process is opened and eBay provides minimal assistance in helping you. They basically tell you to contact the seller (which you have) and allow the seller to select one of several options. I have personally dealt with this eBay seller a couple of times and he was quite responsive to emails. By all means, do not leave any feedback until this is resolved.

How was the item shipped? There is this in the auction description:
USPS Airmail Letter Post
4 to 10 business days*
Due to US Postal Service 2007 service update, this shipping service is no longer available as of May 14, 2007
edit: Here's a couple of posts about this seller:

Thanks for the reply.
I just e-mailed them again to find out what shipping they used and if by some chance there is a tracking #.
The antenna's were only $9.50 + $2.00 shipping. Not alot of money but we'll see what thay say....

Let's just say that i wait for a while longer and still nothing shows up.
I than open a e-bay and pay pal dispute saying i never recived the item.
And the seller says says it has been shiped out and got lost in the mail.
So than where he says he shipped the item out theres nothing he can do.
So an i than out the money i spent on the item?

The seller has a really good feedback rating. Hopefully if it was lost, it will find its way back to the seller. I would not leave neg feedback yet until another week if seller does not help you. But go ahead and open the dispute case.

If USPS lost it, what do you expect the seller to do? It's a $10 item, so not worth insuring. Is $10 really worth haggling someone who can do nothing about the problem?

Based on the seller's perfect feedback score, it's obvious that they shipped the item but it was lost in the mail. So, don't leave a negative feedback, which is not only unfair to the seller, but s/he might retaliate by giving you a negative feedback. Perhaps you can privately work out a deal with the seller, like ordering a second antenna for half the price.

I'm not going to leave negative feedback.Even if i never get the item.I just wont leave any feedback.
If it got lost in the mail than so be it.I know he got a good feedback score BUT for me it's just him saying he sent it out.
I'm just waiting to here back from him and see what he has to say about it.
BUT from where i stand i bought a item and used pay pal to pay for it and that was the last i herd from it.No e-mail saying he got the money or he shiped out the item, nothing.
So as of now i'm out the $11.50 and still needing the item i bought.
I just know i wont be buying anything from that e-bay seller again.
It also seems like there is another person in the link that Ray posted is not happy with him eather.

$10.00 IS $10.00 The money is not the point.
I'm out the $11.50 and still in need of the item.
If USPS lost it than so be it.But for me it's just him saying it's mailed out.

I'm a VERY trusting person. The first 5 e-bay things i bought i have payed for by sending them a money order. And alot of stuff from diffrent people not from e-bay by money order.
But i just have a bad gut feeling about this e-bay seller.

i would at least start a dispute with paypal and not escalate it to a claim quite yet. You only have like 30 days or something from auction ends to start the dispute. This doesnt mean a whole lot in dispute form, but it keeps this thing fresh in case you want to escalate to a claim. All you have to do is say item was paid for and not received, than paypal goes to the seller and they have to provide proof they mailed out this item to you like a post office receipt for instance. The seller will then have options of what to do and so will you. Most likely they will want to settle this without escalating to a claim and there you can find if they really mailed it or not. I have personally gone down this road a couple times now and paypal is definitely protection for the buyer so dont do anything crazy like leaving neg feedback real quick, but definitely DO start a dispute while you have time.

Thanks very much for your reply.Your's and Rays reply was very helpfull.
I sent an e-mail to the seller seeing if they had a tracking #.I'll wait for another few days befor i start anything.
But if nothing in the next few days than i'll be going to pay pal saying i paid for an item and never recived anything.
I'm not going to leave "-" feedback because i dont want to have him leave "-" for me.Not when my e-bay feedback is only like 7 .
Not for a $11.50 item.

I'll wait till i here back from him befor i do anything.
I know this item is only $11.50 but thats not the point.
From where i sit i have bought an e-bay item and used Pay Pal to pay for it.And that was it.No e-mail saying it was shipped no nothing.Just an e-bay e-mail saying i have won the item.

Well about 15mins ago i got a e-mail from the seller.
He said where it has been 23 days in the mail it had to be lost.
He than offered to send a replacement or full refund.
I had to take the refund,i had bought the item i needed from a canadain seller.I also had the full amount refunded back into pay pal with in min's.
He was very good about about it.
I also said to him if by any chance it does show up at my house down the road i WILL e-mail him and make the payment to him. That is the only fair thing to do.

So this brings up another question.
Now that everything is settled and i'm very happy.Whould have been nice to get the items but at least i'm not out anything.
What do i do for feedback?
Do i leave feedback saying item lost in mail and got full refund leaving "+".
Or just dont leave anything.?

This is the first time this has happened to me.

If I were you I would leave a positive since he did correct things from his end and issued you a refund.

By all means, leave him a positive. He made things right. You can word your feedback along the lines of, "had a problem, seller handled it professionally". I would not mention anything about the item being lost in the mail so as not to give future buyers any idea about trying to claim that their item was not received.

Thanks Ray
Never thought of it like that.
I'm going now to leave positive for him now.

Positive feedback is the way to go, he was very fair and you did not lose anything.

Well it's not over with yet.
I did get my money back on the item i never recived.
All that is fine.
BUT just after the refund i get an e-bay email reminder to pay for the item.
I log into my e-bay and it shows that i "just won the item" and have to pay now.
I sent him another e-mail about it and he just says "he will take care of it".
Than today i get another e-bay e-mail reminder to pay for the item and also an e-bay Alert about non-paying for an item.
I just loged into my ebay again and it looks like he opened a unpaid item despute.
I'm in the middle of e-mailing him again asking him whats on the go?
I never opened a item not recived dispute because he refunded back my full amonnt. I thought this was the end of it.
Now from the e-bay alert it looks like if i dont pay for the item again that i'll have a unpaid item on my feedback.

Now we'll see how this all turnes out.

*EDIT*
Looks like it's all closed now.
From the looks of it ,from what i have been reading on e-bay.He had to open a unpaid item and go through the few stepts to close out the case.
So every thing seems good again. So far anyway.
I just dident want a unpaid item mark on my e-bay feed back.
