Memory upgrade on my T43

#1 Post by codex » Thu May 24, 2007 1:40 pm

Hi all,

I have a T43-2686DGU with 1GB of memory (two 512mb chips) and am considering upgrading to 2GB--so, of course, I'll need to buy two new 1GB chips.

My question is regarding which part number to purchase. The chart I found at IBM says that I'll need part number 73P3844 which is the '1GB PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM Memory'. However, in searching the Lenovo EPP site I also see the '1GB PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM Memory' (part number 40Y7734) for the same price of $95.61 CDN

My first question is, can I purchase the faster memory and use it with my T43? I figure this would be advantageous just in case I decide to upgrade to a T6x at some point in the future.

My second question is, is there any other sources I should check that may offer the memory for cheaper?

Thanks!

For some reason I was thinking I had to order through Lenovo (or buy Lenovo certified memory), but your response has snapped me back into reality. Memory is memory, and there's not much of a point in paying a premium to buy it through Lenovo when any computer shop will have it for much cheaper.

I guess the only remaining concern is that the faster RAM will work in the T43, but I guess that there's no reason why it would not.

Thanks for your response.

I have 2GB of DDR2-667 PC2-5300 in my T43 and it works perfectly. One is a Crucial stick and the other is a Corsair. Works just fine. I got the Crucial for $35 after rebate in April and the Corsair for $25 after rebate earlier this month.

I have 1 X 2gb PC-5300 in the slot under the keyboard my T43p. I also had a 1gb chip of PC-5300 at the same time. The BIOS read 3gb, CPUID read 3gb but Windows only sees 2gb. I also had a PC-4200 in the underneath slot with the same results. I have since emptied the slot underneath until it would become useful.
