hello,
What happens if I install a retail version of Windows XP Pro SP2 on my thinkpad R40 along with all the tools/drivers downloaded from IBM/Lenovo's support site ? How close would I get to the system that was originally preinstalled on my thinkpad R40 ?
I'm wondering whether IBM/Lenovo additionally tweaks the core OS itself to improve support for their hardware, or maybe some tools/utils
are unavailable to download from the IBM/Lenovo support site (and only come with the preinstalled windows versions) ? If so, how much would I be missing ?
All of the above is an 'emergency scenario' if I would loose access to my HPA partition (predesktop area) and had no Recovery CDs for my system...
