T7700 processor option gone today.

#1 Post by barrywohl » Fri May 25, 2007 8:31 am

I've been lurking on the Lenovo.com USA website looking for more T61 options.

Today I noticed that Lenovo no longer offers the T7700 2.4 GHz processor option with either of the T61 computers. The same is true also with either of the R61 computers. The T7500 2.2 GHz option is the fastest. You can still buy a T7600 2.33 GHz with a T60p.

Anybody want to guess whether this is a temporary supply problem or heat and design problem.
First Thinkpad 755CX in 1995. First IBM: PC 1982 8088 w 64K RAM, dual floppy. Currently in use:
X230T with Win8Pro x64, i7, 500gb ssd; W700 WUXGA RAID 1 Blu-Ray W7Pro x64, occasionally a T61p with Win7Pro x64

Possibly a heat issue, or more likely a supply issue.

I'm sure the T7700 is in low availability considering that it is top end chip. Be patient.

T7600 is 2.33 GHz with FSB 667MHz. T7700 is 2.4 GHz with FSB 800Mhz . The previous has a multiplier of 14 while the later has a multiplier of 12.

Don't worry, THEY will be back!
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I speculate that either the processor is too expensive or there is a problem with the cooling system because the processor is too hot that Lenovo removes it.

I'm sorry for being a dunce, but I don't understand what you are trying to explain. I understand the arithmetic, but not the implication.

Thanks for the reassurance. I was looking for a Lenovo observer with more experience than me.

Maybe they're saving them for the T61ps?

Or is that wishful thinking?

Oh, some members are confused about the specs of the T7600 and T7700. I am just clarifying it up.
