Sounds like a marble dropping under the right palm rest

#1 Post by vinceg84 » Fri May 25, 2007 1:54 pm

On my T60p, every so often I hear this sound under the right palm rest. The best I can describe it is like a marble dropping. I would guess it is coming from the hard drive. I have a seagate 7200rpm 100gb hd. Is this normal? I took the hard drive out and it looks fine but I really don't know what to look for. I just want to know if this is a normal sound or if there is something wrong. It has been making this noise every so often for the 3-4 weeks that I've had the system.

I guess that is normal, I get it on all hard drives I use - including the ones in my USB enclosure ...

I have the same drive in my T60, and I get the same behavior. Doesn't seem to be anything to worry about . . . heads parking when the drive is idle is my guess.

Hehe, i thought about asking this question too and i'd have used the EXACT same description of the sound as you did.

I have these dropping marble sounds too, randomly it seems... I also have the Seagate 7200 RPM 100 GB drive the T60p originally came with.
But so far, no harm.

It's probably the thermal management working.

Yes, that's the perfect way to describe the sound! I am getting that too. It appears to be a characteristic of the Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021AS drives. I also have a Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 HTS721010G9SA00 drive which does not make this noise.
