Need XP Tablet Recovery Media
I need someone to PLEASE run off some recovery discs for me. Just the base install, not the additional software. Please HELP.
Just PM me, or email me please.
This document says I have the right to downgrade to XP Tablet, but Lenovo/ IBM tech support has no way in there system to order XP Tablet discs for a machine that came with Vista Business. I showed them this document and they admit it appears we have the right to downgrade but the system in place doesn't allow it. They say if I go to Microsoft, I will be referred back to Lenovo. It's an endless loop.

I managed to get 2 X60 Tablets, and a T60 purchased on this sales order, based on my past experience with IBM. I also convinced a friend to buy an A31P back when they were out, and I own 2 A31s and a T20. If they can't solve this I am going to bad mouth Lenovo everywhere I go for the rest of my life. My friend with the other X60 will also. This whole experience has made me look bad and embarrassed me.
If someone here with XP Tablet for the X60 Tablet could run off some recovery discs for me it would be greatly appreciated!
Harry

Wong...You have a right to downgrade to xp... at your expense, with your own copy of xp.
Downgrade rights mostly apply to volume license holders and the reason there are even downgrade rights to begin with is that the OEM COA on the system is the base OS license for volume license holders or companies with select agreements. Having the Vista COA allows corporations to use their existing license for xp legally.
Lenovo, or Hp for that matter can not legally send you XP tablet recovery media per their agreement with MS... It violates copyright. I've gotten that answer from both MS and the vendor myself.
So... no fault of Lenovo at all. I know that doc makes it appear like Lenovo will just send you an oem load.... But they won't. That is yet at least the third version of this document MS has put out and it is still fuzzy....

I don't mind paying for the media, but you CAN'T buy XP Tablet!
The license is what you buy not the media. The cost of the media is the cost of the time it took to burn it, and the cost of shipping it, as well as the cost of the media itself. It doesn't say you have to BUY a full blown copy of XP at office depot at $200. a pop. The license is your Vista license. IBM/ Lenovo have an OEM agreement and can at their discretion use it. The techs at IBM read the doc and totally agreed with me, and even opened a case number so I could escalate the case, but they do not have the capability within their system to even request the disc.
I went through this before with XP and 2000, and they sent me both sets so I could go back to 2000 until a service pack came out.
I still need the discs. I have XP Pro, and 2 copies of XP home, as well as my XP Pro on my A31, which is only a restore disc. None of those will work with my Tablet.

Well I can't speak to the stability of XP Tablet since I never used it, but XP on my 5 year old Pentium 4m runs faster with 1/3rd the ram, than this Vista machine. I had to gut all the security features that make vista vista just to make is bearable. If I try to install my cell phone driver, which is how I get online when I'm not at home, Vista feezes until I hold the power button down and force restart. Once the driver is installed, this happens as soon as I plug the phone USB cable in. So that's real annoying. The main audio device used for the software I use most of the time doesn't have a Vista compatible driver and has had lots of reports of trouble.
I like the handwriting recognition of Vista, but I didn't buy this for that and didn't even know it would do handwriting recognition until after it was in my hands. I wouldn't miss that part of it. I would love to have it running much faster, and be able to get on the internet.
I do not pay for my Cell phone internet access. It's an old plan, and an old phone. If I upgrade, I'll have to change plans and it will cost $40 per month to get online. This by itself is enough reason to have XP Tablet. Again, willing to pay for it, impossible to buy it.
I am fully aware that the ThinkVantage technologies software will still have to be removed even with the XP Tablet version since they add a lot of problems. The IBM tech support told me she gets calls all day long complaining about Vista. She said it would be 2008 before Microsuck had a patch out to straighten it out. I have a feeling we are really going to have to have 2 or 3 generations of processors, and 4 gigs plus of Ram before Vista is solid and fast enough in a notebook. A couple years will be needed before there is enough software for it. I have also heard, XP will be supported until 2012, so if that's the case then why not XP? My big regret is we ordered 2 of these machines, both Vista. I wish we would have ordered 1 with XP Tablet.

OK according to this http://www.dcom.com.sg/pdf/downgradeOEM ... 020707.pdf
As long as I provide the MEDIA, I can install it and Microsoft will activate it over the phone. I just need a copy of XP Tablet edition. This can be a full blown copy or a set of restore discs run off by one of my friends here that has it on their own X60 Tablet.
Please Help!
Frustrated in FL.
This explains to me and confirms what I said about IBM sending me both the XP restore and the Windows 2000 restore discs when I bought my A31. Apparently Lenovo can no longer make decisions for themselves.
