Help with onboard mic

#1 Post by infrd » Fri May 25, 2007 11:16 pm

I just noticed that I couldn't get windows sound recorder to register any sound at all from the onboard mic on this T60p, the line remains perfectly flat. Usually, a tap anywhere on the chassis should be enough to see a wave of some sort. I plugged in an external mic and it works fine.

Is there a hidden switch or something for the on board mic? Granted, I'll probably never use it for anything productive, but I just don't like the feeling that something is broken. Thanks.

You must un-silent the mic. Go to:
Run, type "sndvol32", there should be a checkbox, untick it just below the Microphone title.

I don't think that's the issue, since the mic on my headset works just fine. Unmuting the microphone option seems to mean 'play all the sound the microphone hears'. With boost on, I can clearly hear all the sounds inside the computer from me typing and such, hopefully meaning the mic is not broken. However, I still can't seem to get windows sound recorder to register anything. I'm assuming the two small slits just under the Fn key is the mic? I'll just try undating the sound drivers.

Do this.
On keyboard increase volume to top [button above F4]
Then
Programs-Accessories-Sound Recorder-Edit-Audio Properties-
Sound Recording- [ this should be Sound max Hd audio]-
Volume- Click Box [Select]- under microphone move box to the top.

When I first checked mine the recording line was flat but I
increased the volume button on the keyboard and I could faintly hear my recording.
