A31p - white is pink when screen comes back on

#1 Post by bluto » Sun Oct 10, 2004 10:10 am

I notice this most when I wake up my display from a blank screen saver.

If there's any white areas on screen, they look pink at first, and then gradually turn back to white. The machine has been doing this for a while.

However, now that there's less than a year left on the warranty, I'm wondering if this is a sign that something's going to fail before too long...

Your CCL backlight is going home to meet it's maker!

Send it in to EZServe, they'll replace the entire display.

A31p - white is pink when screen comes back on

Bluto,

it seems to be a not really rare event: I had to return my own A31P within the first months and the one of my wife turned pink - the same way yours does - when I recieved it second hand (1 1/2 years old).

I sent it in (IBM-Service-partner in Germany), it came back repaired and tested within a week.

This is exactly what happened to my A31p after 2 years of daily use.

I sent it this summer for repair. They first changed the inverter but it didn't fix the problem. So they finally changed the whole LCD panel. Now everything is back to normal...

That's usually a problem with the inverter. It happened with my 770 and got worse and worse til the screen was practically unuseable. I sent it to EZserv and they replaced the inverter, so the screen works fine now. I just don't use the 770 much any more.

Almost every A30 and A31 is dying with this problem at my company. We havent even bothered fixing them, they are just piling up in storage and robbing parts off of them now and then. Ive seen at least 20 come through at this year with this problem.

Yeah,

I find that the A3x series has more than one flaw. The video card is definately a weakness on these machines. My mobo has been replaced twice, the second time it came back working as new. Apart from the fact that the firewire port did not work (and still does not) I have a repair call running for 4 weeks now and I will only be turning it (the machine) in when the replacement parts are available. The last time replacement of mobo meant I had to miss my machine for 7 (yes seven) weeks.
