Battery management (with ThinkVantage)

#1 Post by Ivan Ivankovic » Sun May 27, 2007 12:48 am

hello!

can someone tell me what's the best battery management policy? Charge after it's below <enter percentage here>
Stop charging after it's aboe <enter percentage here>

For now, my battery management is: when I go mobile, I usually have the battery full, and I drain it down to 5% (give or take a percent).
When I come home, I charge the battery to ~90%, take it out, and then work just on AC...
is there a way to keep the battery in at all time but restrict charging?

what's the right battery management? please if someone could share some light on it....

Thank you

From what I understand, what you're doing right now is actually very bad for the battery. Generally you don't want to always drain it to as low as 5%, and when you store it, you want 40% and not 90%. Of course, it's not very practical to always have the battery half charged, so when I do get it charged I take it to full since I'll likely be using it soon.

I'm not sure how the 'optimize battery lifespan' option works in power manager (it doesn't seem to change anything for me), so I have custom settings for charge to commence when capacity drops below 36%.

40%-50% is a good if you're planning to store it for a while, otherwise if you're a mobile person and use it very often then draining it down to 5% is fair enough before charging it back.

I don't think so there is.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
