You can undervolt with NHC a fair bit to reduce heat and increase battery life; my X31 runs at 0.764V at the 6x multiplier (which really matters the most).
I also have Atheros abg wireless and a 7K100 disk but you may not find those necessary ...

Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) a small tool with which you can easily control the hardware components of your notebook including temperature. It's a freeware, download it it from:

a) X3 series extended life battery (The one that goes over the Ultrabase connector on the bottom).Boo Boo wrote:i picked up a x31 and so far upped the ram to 1.5 and slapped in one of my 100gb 5400's. i want to up the wifi to abg and was looking over posts and on google. only card i can get is a ibm without a hack correct?

Boosts your endurance to over 11 hours if you use it with NHC. Also adds some strength to the bottom frame, and blocks repetitive stress to the corners of death (the memory bay cover. Especially the corner closest to the middle of the machine). If you put too much constant pressure on it, it'll loosen the BGA solders on the i855PM Northbridge chip directly above, and that'll cause the dreaded "no boot" error.
b) Shoreline 14125 12" Laptop Jacket
Pretty much your first line of defense against sudden nudges, bumps and whatnot that'll loosen those BGA solders. The back flap can be opened to allow the important connections on the X31 (like power and Ethernet) to pass through. Stretches to fit Ultrabase battery as well.
