Thinkpad T4x cases? which ones are the best.

Dimensions are:
DxWxH (sorry I know that's convoluted, but I'm lazy and I took the time to actually measure.. so gimme a break

)

10.875" (with 9cell battery) x 12.25" x 1.25" (thickest point)

Actually measurements on a 14.1" T4x. I erred toward giving a little larger measurements than a little smaller when I was eyeballing it.

sorry for the bump, but does anyone have the timbuk2 commute case and care to comment on it fitting the thinkpad t42? i need something to carry not only my laptop but a few books / power bricks etc... will this work for me?

I also just picked up one of these - looks pretty nice! I've always preferred the sleeve in whatever standard bag rather than a big computer bag.

Anyway note that the 15" ZeroShock sleeve actually comes in 2 sizes: Medium and Large. The Medium fits my 15" T42p brick snugly and perfectly.

Does the zeroshock add that much to the dimensions? I was looking at the 14" for a 14.1" T42, but I don't want to make this thing that thick.

I don't think it's possible to have a case any smaller. There is nothing that would add less thickness than this - it is a zip-on glove.

I just purchased the Timbuk2 "Detour". It can be worn as either a backpack or messenger bag, which is very useful to me because I'll be starting law school in the fall. The commute was very nice too... was a tough decision!

Do we know if this promotion is still working? I clicked on it a few days ago and saw the banner under the navigation - I clicked on it today and I don't see that anymore. Thanks!

If anyone is interested in the Timbuk2 Detour Bag (Black), I'm selling mine for significantly below retail. Its in perfect condition, only used twice. Unfortunately, I can't find the [censored] receipt to return it! I decided that for my needs, a true backpack would be best, as I wouldn't really be utilizing the messenger bag features with the Detour. PM if you're interested! Thanks

I just got the Samsonite Rafter Laptop Backpack, for the sual purpose of serving as my backpack and laptop carrying case. I had considered earlier to get a nice sleeve for my T42p, and just inserting this in my old backpack, but for about the same price (as some I was looking at) I figured why not get a highly reccomended backpack-all-in-one.

Well I must say I am very pleased with this pack, and I would definitely reccommend it to any student or professional who would prefer an unassuming backpack as protection/container for their new Thinkpad. The internal computer pouch is well protected, as it is seated in almost a suspended position. The 14" T42p that I have (with 9-cell) fits very well, with about an inch on each side (I have it in there sideways). I tried a messenger-type bag/laptop case combo before, and I did not like the distribution of weight across my shoulders, as well as the banging of the case against my side/back when I walk. This backpack gives excellent support, in fact it has some metal-type bars in the back that really seem to fit the contour of my back, while keeping the pack fairly rigid.

Port.com has by far the best bags out there. They have a patented air cusion inside that protects the laptop. They are nylon and weigh very little. I bought 2 for my thinkpads. They even fit my 15in powerbook. You can adjust the padding to the size of your thinkpad. Best they are only $99.

Is it true that any pressure on the notebook cover may dent the screen from the contact with the touchpoint or keyboard? The selection of a case should tehrefore have this in consideration?

An abnormal amount of pressure (say, someone sitting on it) would be required in most cases to leave a dent in the screen, but I believe the more common occurrence is the imprint of the trackpoint, from finger grease. This is easy to clean, and not even an issue if you keep your hands fairly clean...

it can fit a 15" Powerbook, so it will fit a 15" thinkpad fine

Hope I'm not interrupting the conversation, it's my first post ever as I'm about to become an owner, I hope, of a T42 (gulp, it sure is alot of money)

On the IBM site & there is a Kensington Saddlebag Pro bag. Does anyone have a comment on this bag? I need a biz looking briefcase & I'm a mass transit hound so I wanted a backpack option. This bag has both, but wow, I think its 3.57lbs! Anybody have any good/bad experiences with this bag?

OR, even better, recommendations for a great combo-bag as mentioned above?

i've got the kensington saddlebag for 40 USD from CompUSA.
I wanted the backpack option (simply cos i don't want to be lopsided when i'm older). It's a great bag, lots of room, reasonable padding.

Only gripes are the small pockets in the front zipped bag could be more deeper. Also the straps have started to smell a little as they seem to absorb my sweat. I'm sure you can wash the straps.

Thinkpad T4x cases? which ones are the best.
