I have a T41 and I use a secondary HDD in the ultrabay for backups. My secondary HDD as well as my primary one has a password. The problem I have is that if insert my secondary HDD in the ultrabay, it will not be available into My Computer. The only way to make it available is to reboot the laptop. If I remove the HDD password from it than the hot swapping will work without issues...
Is there any way to hotswap password protected HDD whitout rebooting?
Thanks,
Vincenzo
Second HDD and HDD password
Re: Second HDD and HDD password
If both the HD passwords are the same as the Supervisor PW on your T41, then you shouldn't be prompted for them ever, even when you hotswap the one in the Ultrabay.enzo_1970 wrote:Is there any way to hotswap password protected HDD whitout rebooting?

Thanks James,
the two HDDs have the same password but I guess it is different from the Supervisor password...
It would be nice if Windows will prompt for a password, but unfortunately when I insert the secondary HDD nothing happens.
If I do like you suggest, setting all the passwords to the same string this would be too much of a limit... In a corporate enviroment, the supervisor password is known to IT and not to the user, the HDD password is known to the user but not to IT. I was wondering if there is any software patch/driver that allows to enter the HDD password within Windows...
Thanks!
