T23 backlight fixed

#1 Post by jimmy274 » Mon May 28, 2007 1:01 pm

I've got the lamp(s) and successfully fixed my T23 backlight problems. If anyone has any questions, I would be very pleased to answer them!

I have some, but I stopped taking pictures once it got a bit jinxy - it's not an easy task at all, but I wouldn't call it hard-core either - if you're good with soldering and you've got steady hands, you shouldn't have problems replacing it. If you handle them with care, CCFL's are not that easy to break - it's just a myth... ;)

I beg to differ....I handled 3 of them with extreme care, but getting them to go back into the sleeve properly, caused me to break them everytime....

Well, I don't know what you've been doing, but keep this in mind - I accidentally threw a full, hard pack of cigarettes on the old one (no protection, just lying on the desk) - and it flew (the pack) at least 20cm - nothing happened, it's not broken, I'm still saving it as a spare.
What's my point?
First of all, there's a couple of ways you can get it back in the sleeve, and I'm talking about my Hitachi panel only - T23 were also produced with an LG-Philips SXGA+ screens.
One way would be not to tear the reflecting film off the backlight plastic holder, while the other one would be to tear it off. The problem with the approach no. 1 is that you have to do all the soldering and desoldering while the CCFL is still in the sleeve, another words - quite impossible. The problem with the approach no. 2 (which I used) is that it's a bit frustrating to get the reflecting film back in it's place, and it gets rather dusty (I have a few spots on my screen), but it's very possible and there's a really small risk of breaking the CCFL.
Trust me, I'm not that careful...
