T42 2373 Hard Drive Upgrade

#1 Post by GregM » Mon May 28, 2007 1:18 pm

Friends,

It's time to boost the storage space on my trusty T42. I have the 2373-H6U and I have read some very good reviews of the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 on this forum.

The remaining question I have, is will this drive work in my computer? I don't know if I have a SATA or PATA ... I know that from the factory my TP came with a 7200RPM 60 GB drive.

Any suggestions on where to buy the Hitachi? I see that Newegg.com has it for $109.00 with $5.29 shipping here. Can I do better elsewhere?

Many thanks,
Greg

T42 uses PATA interface hard drives. I bought my 7K100 for about 110USD (shipping included) from US to Mexico (where I live) on eBay. You could get one these days for about 90USD on eBay.

I'm unsure if Hitachi would manufacture a third generation 7200RPM for PATA interface. New 7K200 only comes in SATA interface with a whooping 16MB of data cache!

Thank you - from what I understand ATA-6 is PATA, right? In other words this hard drive would work?

Thanks,
Greg
