T61 delivery delays

#1 Post by briboynyc » Mon May 28, 2007 7:13 pm

I figured I would start a thread specifically for people who have placed an order for a T61 and have shipping dates in Aug.

I've seen various posts of people who ordered the T61 over memorial day weekend and have a shipping estimate in late August. Well I ordered mine on May 9th and my original shipping date was Sept 28th.

I checked my order on their website today (the 28th) and now it shows a ship date of Aug 30th. How can it take 3.5 months to build a laptop? By that time there will be a new processor out (T7800). I'm wondering if there are problems with the T7700 processor. Did anyone notice you can't configure/build a T61 with a T7700 processor anymore?

I have read theories that the Nvidia card was causing the delay but then read another post from someone who configured a T61 with the Intel Graphics chip and they too had a delivery date in Aug.

How many others have received similar news? From doing various google searches Lenovo is notorious in delaying delivery. I think maybe the Dell D630 isn't looking like such a bad choice.

Lastly, my credit card hasn't been charged yet so I know that the order hasn't shipped yet. Some of indicated there was a bug on the lenovo site when checking the status. Even if there was a bug and my order shipped on schedule (may 28th) my credit card would have been charged.

lenovo, like IBM, would rather promise less and deliver more than the reverse..

there are so many reasons a laptop can not be delivered on time that i won't try to list those that i know about, here..

just let me say this, lenovo wants the customer to be happy..
they can't ship what they can't build..
they can't build when there is either a new bug to be worked out or a tiny part is constrained..

and last but not least, lenovo can't make $$ when they can't deliver..
so, they WILL deliver ASAP..
and USUALLY all orders that CAN be shiped WILL be shipped and billed BEFORE the end of the quarter.. which is june 30.. :)

locking this thread because like gator says there is a place for this question..
