You need to have something that fits into the ultrabay slim slot. It is not the same connector as an off-the-shelf drive.

so... if i can find other dvdrw that are the same ultrabay slim specific, then they would fit into my ibm T43 ?

i found a couple online which "look" slim but i can not be sure they have exactly the same specifications:

Pioneer DVR-K06, or Pioneer DVR-K15, or Pioneer DVR-K16, or Pioneer DVR-K17, or NEC ND-6650, or Samsung SN-S082D, or Sony DW-Q58A, or NEC ND-6750A, or Asus 90-NI71W1000Z, or NEC ND-6500A, or Toshiba SD-R6572, or LG Electronics GWA-4082N and so on... just to name a few..

any thoughts ? thank you !

None of those will fit. I think they are all 12.7mm high and you need 9.5mm high drives (made by M a t s u s h i t a/Panasonic) to fit the T4x series.

so it looks like i "must" use ibm/lenovo dvdrw ? any possible non-ibm/lenovo drives ?

Due to the phsycal size of the drive, you may only have to use ibm/lenovo dvdrws.

If you want a DVD burner that fits in the Ultrabay Slim drive bay, check ebay, there are usually deals there.
Here is one example: IBM ThinkPad DVD Multi Burner Ultrabay Slim Plus UJ-822
Note: I have no experience with this seller, and I make no endorsement.

You also have the option to purchase an external USB DVD burner. I have one of these that I purchased from Office Max. Others have purchased USB enclosures and desktop DVD burners to use in them.
