Mouse buttons stopped working

#1 Post by dgrey » Tue May 29, 2007 1:43 pm

Ok, I tried this in the T60 forum with no response. I'll give this a shot in the windows side.

It all started with an AVI I played off the web. The avi kept looping and I couldn't shut it down, nor the machine. Had to power off.

Now, the mouse buttons do not work. Mouse moves around, but pressing the buttons does nothing. However, hit ctl+alt+del and you get the selection screen for shutdown etc, and it works there. I have the exact same symptoms with an external mouse so it's not the trackpoint buttons.

Everything also works in safe mode, I just can't figure out what would cause this.

This is on a T60WS running XP SP2 with all appropriate patches.

Probably you have a missing or corrupt driver file.

I think I would try going to Device Manager and deleting all references to the mouse, TrackPoint and TouchPad, then reboot. Hopefully when Windows reinstalls the drivers on boot-up, all will be well. Right-click on an entry to get the delete option.

If for some reason that doesn't work, I would go to Add or Remove programs and uninstall the UltraNav driver (or TrackPoint driver) and any mouse driver software, reboot, then reinstall the UltraNav driver (or TrackPoint) software. You can download from Lenovo and manually install, or else use Software Installer or System Update.
