Difference Between T4x and T4x/p Models
Difference Between T4x and T4x/p Models
Hello again,
Now that I'm registered, I may as well ask the questions I've had since owning my first ThinkPad.
What is the difference between, for example, my T40 model, and the T40/p?
Thank you.

Well now that i'm registered i guess i can answer this question
Longtime lurker here
Anyways, the P version is like "power" version that comes with a ATI Fire GL videocard with 128MB of Ram instead of the lil ATI Radeon 7500 32MB ones that comes in the standard models.
Oh and you might wanna read the FAQ above:

You can easily solve that 'power' issue by picking up a used T40 or T41P model. The T42P's and T43P's are a little pricey right now.
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.
Old:
E6520, Precision M4400, D630, Latitude E6520
ThinkPad Tablet 16GB 1838-22U
IBM Thinkpad X61T, T61, T43, X41T, T60, T41P, T42, T410, X301

Hi, it's a T42, 2373-VKU, P M 735(1.7GHz), 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1in 1024x768 LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, DVD/CDRW, IBM 802.11abg wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro. I payed £250 (a bit over $500).
The seller thought there was no warranty left, but I checked and it has warranty through to 12/08. I'll stick the RAM up to 1GB, and may get a larger, faster HDD, but is there anything else can I do that isn't too technically demanding that would make investment worthwhile: I will only use it for wordprocessing, internet stuff, watching DVDs, and showing digital photos with a projector.
Thanks

well the faster HD and more RAM should definitely help IE and Word run super nice and if you use Vista then that'll help too. I have a lil better one that i got for a lil more than yours (not rubbing it in) and it runs great as is but of-course i wanna slap some more RAM in there (can never have too much RAM!!!) I don't see anything else that would help, sure a CPU upgrade would help but you don't need it for typing and browsing, hell a Thinkpad T21 with a 700mhz CPU would be fast!!
Ye, more RAM and a faster HDD will do me for now. But no Vista - my Dell PC came with it and I stuck in another HDD and installed XP on it. In about a year's time I'll put the Vista HDD back in when SP1 is out, and I might be able to use my HP Laserjet printer and a few other programs which haven't drivers for Vista yet.
Higher spec T42's seem harder to come by in the UK.
