X60S, external mouse flaky after some hours of usage

I am not sure if anybody got the same problem. I found that my external mouse becomes very flaky after certain hours of usage. My laptop is always on. Playing some music, doing some calculations (matlab) or do some movie editing (adobe premier).

The exact problem: the mouse some time is too sensitive. Any click will become double click. Sometime, the mouse moves too fast and sometime, it does not move at all.

I have three mouses: a creative, an apple almighty and a microsoft wireless. I found that when one mouse is flaky, If I switch to another mouse, the flaky problem will be gone.

I am wondering the following problems:

1, USB port got some problem.
2, Windows XP got some problem.
3, the motherboard got some problem.

Anybody got similar experiences?

If all three mice have the same problem at one point or another, I'd say it's a motherboard issue.

That is what I would think. But it would be hard to press Lenovo to replace the MB because it is hard to reproduce the problem in a short time of period.

Some time ago, my brother was having mouse problems on his computer. He eventually discovered that the video driver had become corrupt. A reinstall of the video driver fixed his problem. I do not remember exactly what problem with the mouse he was having, and I do not know if this would help you, but it might be worth a shot. Note that with video drivers, you usually need to uninstall the existing driver, reboot, then install the new driver.

However if it doesn't work well, then you can reinstall the mouse by first uninstalling from the device manager under settings menu in control panel and when you restart your computer, the Windows will detect the mouse and install it automatically. This tip also works in most of the cases and fixes the problem. However if this tip also fails to deliver, then the treatment of doctor mentioned above can be applied. As for this tip, video card driver could cause the erratic mouse movements. You can thus rectify this problem by adjusting the graphics acceleration slider off its highest level. To work out this tip, click on the control panel and then click on system icon. This will open system properties window on your computer screen. Now click on performance tab and then click on the graphics button located towards the bottom of the window. This will open "Advanced to graphics setting" window on your computer screen. Move the graphics acceleration slider to one notch to the left from full. This will take control of the mouse movement from the graphics card and will give it to Windows. Now close all open Windows and restart the system. On restarting you will find your problem solved. However, after the solution of this problem, you will need to update your video driver also to keep it working properly.

If you unplug and replug the same mouse, is the problem still there?

I would personally suspect a software problem.

I had the same issue, but found that a few applications of Head & Shoulders solves the problem very nicely.

I have reinstalled the mouse. So far no problem yet. Hopefully this solves the problem. But again, I have been running my laptop for over 8 hours yet.

To tomh009: Yes, for the same mouse, if I unplug and plug, the problem persists. But if I change the mouse, the problem is gone. I had to keep at least mouses, when one is not working, I put another one in.

Just an update. Still the same problem. It seems the external mouse driver will corrupt, or the usb port will corrupt after some time.

I will call IBM Monday. As the problem is hard to repeat, I am not sure if I can get some help from them.
