Running HDD diagnostic program from BIOS Utility failed
I have a Seagate 7200rpm 100GB HDD on my T60p.
When I tried to run the Hard drive Diagnostic program using the BIOS Utility, I get this error
Error Code : 0000 - Read Verification failed.
I am getting the same error while running PC Doctor 5 too.
However I do not have any issues with reading or writing to the HDD
while using Vista. Also I did a quick scan using HD Tune and I did not see any bad sector.
Any idea why the verification failed while using the diagnostic utilities.

Hello Skpsm,
you should capture the screen shots of the errors (you should use PC doctor and seagate's util for this) and ask lenovo for replacement(assuming that this drive came with your tp and it's still under warranty) or ask seagate if you bought the drive separately.
you don't have problems with the os YET.
make sure you make images of the hdd before you send it away from replacement.

jkahng,
Thanks for the reply. I do not have any issues with the OS yet. Everything works fine as expected and no BSOD as of now. I ran PC Doctor 5 and the HDD tests are a success except for the SMART short self disk test which failed.
My TP is only 2 weeks old and the HDD bad cluster is something really frustrating . Do you know where in real time working of the TP this bad cluster ( I saw only 1 block while running HD Tune ) can adversely affect the performance.
I will wait for any issues further before reporting to Lenovo as I do not want to send my TP for HDD replacement.

hello skpsm,
it's your choice as to wait and see how this unfolds for you. but you should document the errors nonetheless as it will provide proof when it comes time to ask for the replacement. if you have onsite warranty, they will comeout and replace for you.
and since hdd is a CRU item(customer replacable unit), you can ask nicely to send you out a new unit and return when you receive.(minimize downtime on your tp)
you should also try hdd tune which measures the transfer rates for the whole drive and see if the bad clusters are affecting your performance as well...(dips in graph will tell)
how's the weather in edison? i lived in NJ about 15 years before returning to korea. just curious...
best regards,
John

Just wanted to point out that if your HD needs warranty replacement, you don't have to send your machine in for service. Lenovo will send a new HD out to you via next day air (along with a return label for you to return the defective one) and it is a customer replaceable item requiring only a screwdriver.

Thanks pae77 and jkhang for your valuable suggestions. Even though its not affecting my system functioning I can see a steep dip in the graph while running the HDTune thus showing it is affecting the system performance. I will be calling Lenovo at the earliest. Can you please give me some insights or links if you have into how I can reimage the old HDD to the new replacement disk so that I don't need to do anything when the new HDD is fixed.
jkhang,
Happy to hear that you too were in Edison. Weather right now is awesome and the Jersey shores are crowded.
