Sockets stop working when t60p is booted off battery.

#1 Post by fiebigc » Thu May 31, 2007 12:49 pm

I have a t60p that I've formated and installed XP pro over the OEM XP H.E. I never used the OEM install long enough to know if it had the same problem. The problem is that when I boot the computer off of battery I lack the ability to connect to WiFi and a liscence server I running off of my laptop to enable a CAD program. My best guess is that some sort of power management is disabling a particular piece of hardware that cripples my Winsock API. I've tried to set all of my power management settings to best performance and that has had no effect. Could someone please enlighten me on this matter. It sort of defeats the purpose of a laptop if I can't use it on battery. Thanks.

Is your WiFi connecting at all? Is the antenna indicator on at the bottom the the display?

The WiFi icon is in the taskbar but when I search for networks nothing appears. It just says that no networks are found.

Have you tried right-clicking on the icon and selecting "repair"?

I followed the thread posted by the moderator and under "Jamie's" reply I found the solution. Everything is working smoothly now. Thanks so much. I'll posted the instruction I've gathered for another perspective.

IP Sockets Stop Working When Switching to Battery
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Problem: LAN card and WiFi card have settings in their drivers
to disable when the computer switches to battery.

Solution:

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters ->
Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection & 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter

Intel -> Right Click -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Deep Smart Power Down (set to Disable)
Intel -> Right Click -> Properties -> Power Management -> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn
this device off to save Power"

11a/b/g/n Wireless -> Right Click -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Power Save Mode (set to Off)

Restart the computer and the IP sockets should now work normally.
