I just returned my new x60 Tablet for a x61 Tablet today and when I ordered the x61, I didnt notice that the display was SXGA and not SXGA+. I realize the difference between these two is not that much but it would be nice to have SXGA+, not to mention I read on the Lenovo site about the SuperView screen that will be available soon which sounds very nice.

My question is about the possibilities of changing the SXGA screen for the SXGA+ SuperView screen when it is released. Does anyone know if this is possible? Are the screens changeable and would Lenovo ever let me just buy the new screen? Or would I have to purchase some sort of warranty or upgrade option to do this? I just placed my order a couple of hours ago so I can add that. If there is no way to change it, then i might be swapping this x61 for the better screen one just like I did with the x60.

I don't think that the swap out of the screen is a simple thing to do, and it would probably be costly in any case.

There is a technical service manual able to be downloaded from somewhere, but it is almost like the screen is nearly 'glued' into the cover with all kinds of antenna parts, and other complex hinge wiring going on down toward the bottom.

It may not go back together very well, unless you have lots of skill in small parts dissasembly are re-assembly etc, etc. I would not want to do it myself, and I feel pretty confident about taking stuff apart.

The Lenovo sales people told me today that the Superview SXGA+ won't be available for about 1 month, so I'm waiting to order that when it's available.

I'm curious, what is the difference between SXGA and SXGA+?

SXGA allows 1280 x 1024
SXGA+ allows 1400 x 1050

Thanks for the reply. Yeh, thats kind of what I had in mind. I definitely think the SuperView screen would be nice to have not to mention I prefer to have as much screen real estate as possible so I think I'll call Lenovo and see what my options are if I would want to change for that screen when it is released.

Anyone else have any experience with changing displays?

It's a typo on the lenovo site. CSR confirmed it's actually SXGA+

Does anyone have confirmation of this? We all know how knowledgeable CSRs can be sometimes, specially with new releases.

It can't be SXGA, which has a 5:4 aspect ratio. The whole laptop would need to have different dimensions.
