Additional monitor (TV) via S-video - no colour !!!!

#1 Post by psychocandy » Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:27 am

Got this working eventually but the picture on the TV is only black and white....

Any ideas?

I'm connected to the TV via the S-video cable and a scart convertor....

I've a S-VIDEO to RCA convertor (just the convertor), when I hook the RCA cable to my TV and the end of the adapter, and then to my S-Video connector, I turn ON the TV panel in Display Settings on my T42p but nothing is shown in my TV.

I've used a gold S-VIDEO cable with no problem in my modern TV set, but in a old TV with only RCA inputs, is there a way to make it work ?

Yes, it should work. I use that setup myself.

Note that there are (2) types of S-Video cables, 4-pin and 7-pin. Nowadays all you really see is the 4-pin. If you have a 7-pin setup, that could be a problem. AFAIK, all the T4x series use the 4-pin connector.

I use a 4-pin S-Video to RCA adapter that I purchased from Radio Shack several years ago with my T42. I also used this on a ThinkPad 600E (circa 1998).

The TV has to be on and set to use the Video RCA input. With the cable connected, go to display Properties > Settings > Advanced, choose the Displays tab, and you should see a red button on TV. Click on the red button and it should turn green, now click on OK. You should now see your desktop on the TV.

Once you see the desktop on the TV, to view videos you need to go to display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Overlay tab > Theater mode options... > choose Theater mode or Same on all.

Yes I have a 4 pin S-video adapter, I guess it doesn't work, don't remember where I bought it. I use your procedure to setup the laptop signal to my TV using a pure S-Video Cable with no problems.s

I would suggest buying a new adapter such as the one I linked to above. That is the adapter that I use with my T42, and it works just fine.
