T40 network adapter issues after clean WinXP install - Help
T40 network adapter issues after clean WinXP install - Help
I received an T40 from a family member and did a clean install of Win XP SP2 on it and can not get the network connection to work.
I installed the Lenovo > Intel Pro/100 VE Network drivers using the instructions for a clean install. Once installed the message says "Network Cable unplugged". (I do have a working network connecteion plugged into the port).
I can do a loopback successfully ( i.e. ping 127.0.0.1) if that helps
I did a search in the T4x forum for this issue but responses I saw direct me back to the steps I have already taken... load the network drivers from the lenovo site . I am now on my second win xp install.. at my wits end as to what the issue is.
Any /All help or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
Susan

Have you connected another computer to this port using the same cable (just to confirm the Thinkpad is receiving a good network signal)? Have you connected to the Lenovo software update site to download the correct drivers automatically?

What is meant by a preload ?

yes I have confirmed that the network connection is working. I plugged it into another laptop that is able to get to the internet on the same cable
I downloaded the following driver "Ethernet (Intel PRO 10/100/1000 LAN Adapter Software) for Windows 2000/XP - ThinkPad R40, T40, T40p" from this linksktn77a wrote: Have you connected to the Lenovo software update site to download the correct drivers automatically?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54046 and followed the instructions for a clean install.
Is there another driver that needs to be installed first ?
Booting into Rescue and Recovery to Restore Factory Contents, or booting up the Product Recovery Discs to Restore Factory Contents. This erases the Windows partition and reinstalls a fresh copy of Windows with all the IBM/Lenovo supplied drivers and software.think5512 wrote:What is meant by a preload ?

I used the blue "access ibm button" to get access to the Rescue and recovery workspace and I do not have an option to restore. I only have the following options - escape to do a normal startup, - F1 to go bios setup -F12 to choose a temporary boot device.GomJabbar wrote:

With no option to get into the rescue and reovery workspace through the access ibm button, is there another option ?
Thank you in advance
