That's probably the best strategy, I never update Windows (Windows update is off completely) as I've found the best strategy with Windows is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosphy. As for BIOS... I've never done a BIOS update on my desktop.Kyocera wrote:Usually if my machine is running fine, no problems I'll let the updates go, for a while, let others update thiers the second they come out and hear about the issues that follow and wait for the fixes/updates to be posted.

For Windows, security holes are discovered all the time and most of the updates are to patch these holes. I always install the latest updates ASAP, before accessing the internet. You never know whether someone out there has access to your files or passwords.
But for BIOS updates, I would wait for a month or so to let others test them first. Once in a while, a new update has bugs and can screw up people's computers. It will take a while for people to notify Lenovo and get the problems fixed.

The one time I used Windows Update it ruined my install and rendered Windows unbootable. After that I've never used it. If you're behind a firewall, don't use IE, have good AV and spyware scanner software, and don't enter personal information on shady sites, the hotfixes aren't really necessary IMO. You take the risk of them breaking something every time you install one.
