A31p, Intel 2200 B/G, and no-1802.com works for me!

Just wanted to post this to let people know it DOES work!

Wanted to see if the Intel 2200 B/G Card would work in an A31p 2653-CU5. This model came with an open slot and no antenna in the screen. It currently runs wireless through a Netgear W511T PCCard.

Took the card from the X31, installed it in the A31p, and booted up. Nice black screen with an error message 1802-unauthorized wireless card etc. De-installed the card, then did a Google search for 1802 etc. Downloaded the "no-1802.com" img file, wrote it out to a floppy disk, and rebooted the 'puter. A scary message about an invalid FAT32 partition followed (HUH!?), then the message to start" no-1802.com".
Two seconds later I was back to an "A\" prompt. Shut down, install the Intel 2200 card, and reboot. Success!

WinXP found the new hardware. I downloaded the driver set from the Intel site, and after installation XP recognized the card and was communicating with my wireless network, albeit with only a 10% signal strength. I was only about five feet away from the router.

Evidently the program only changes a CMOS setting which checks for non-IBM cards. It is not a permanent change, inasmuch as it will have to be re-applied if "ALL" power sources (including the CMOS battery) are removed. Works for me!

Now that I know the card works, I'll do an antenna installation.

Congrats. I did the same with my A31 installing the wireless antenna and mPCI. No protruding PC cards.
