Threaded holes bottom A31
What are the threaded Holes on the bottom for?
Has anyone built an all Metal replacement case for A31?
The plastic parts are starting to fall off. Rigidity is a must.
As an alternative I would replace the case parts with brand new if I could find them cheap.

What are the threaded Holes on the bottom for?
The hole on the back left-hand side (computer upside-down) is to secure the hard drive.
The hole on the front left-hand side (computer upside down) is to secure the Ultrabay device.
Can't help you on a metal case.
Regards.
Dave

The holes I'm talking about are no where near the hard drive.olex126 wrote:The hole on the back left-hand side (computer upside-down) is to secure the hard drive.

If you flipped it over left to right, they are close to the bottom left and right edge, have brass threaded inserts, and are very close to the rectangular rubber feet on each side. They are directly under the speakers. I used to think they were there to secure a dock, but realized years later that wasn't the case. Still no clue what they are there for though.

Digging out my project A31 (video problem; what else?), I see the two threaded inserts you are talking about. Never noticed them before but I've only had this system for a couple of months. They appear to be locking screws for the Ultrabay devices. Installing a screw there will block the eject button from sliding over.

rkawakami's right.. The 2 screws at the bottom secure the locking levers for the Ultrabays, and the one at the rear secures the hard drive.

Generally, it's called a "security" screw. Whether that means the user can't accidentally remove the Ultrabay drive without taking the extra step to unthread the screw OR a company uses a screw with a special head (i.e. Torx Pinhead) to lock down the device so it can't be stolen/swapped.
