Presentation Director 3.03 Fn+F7 broken?

#1 Post by bmoisten » Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:52 pm

This is a great resource. Thanks!

I've been having a stack of issues with my T60p (model 2008), the Advanced Dock and Presentation Director 3.03. I've updated nearly all the components on the Lenovo support page - bios, video drivers, presentation director, etc. Now I've learned that Presentation Director 3.03's Fn+F7 refuses to display the select list. Additionally, when I dock the laptop and attempt to configure dual displays I get an error dialog that indicates that wrong resolution and color depth. I've rolled back video drivers, uninstalled ATI Control Center (Catalyst) and re-installed the previous presentation director. Even with the rollback, it still doesn't work.

Any ideas? This used to work just fine.

Thanks.

BM.

You are not alone.

Try uninstalling the Hotkey Features driver and installing a previous version. To uninstall the Hotkey Features driver you need to uninstall the following:
1. ThinkPad web navigation keys agent
2. ThinkPad FullScreen Magnifier
3. On Screen Display

Follow the installation instructions below to install.

Hotkey driver for Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP - ThinkPad General version 1.31.0610.

I had this problem, too. When I installed Presentation Director 3.03 Fn+F7 didn't work properly. Rather than bringing up the menu (as configured) it switched to an unconnected external display, leaving my LCD black. Pressing Fn+F7 again returned display output to the LCD but at reduced resolution.

In desperation I eventually uninstalled PD 3.03 and deleted everything I could find in the registry that referred to PDIRECT (Presentation Director) before re-installing the previous version (2.54). Since that version does exactly what I need, I don't intend to update again.

It is unfortunate when a ThinkVantage utility or driver malfunctions or when there are undocumented dependencies between them. Personally, I've become circumspect about updates. Mostly they don't bring anything one needs, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Current: T60p (2007-93G). Previous: T23 (2647-9LG).
