t42p hard drive inside an x31?

i have an extra 60gb 7200 rpm harddrive from my t42p. i upgraded to a 100gb drive and burned an image of the old drive onto the new hard drive. my question is: can i put the the original hard drive with the factory image on it into an x31?

Probably. Pre-loaded drives are supposed to be interchangeable among ThinkPad models from the same generation, but I'm not sure if the T42p is too new for the X31. Anything up to XP Pro should work on the X31, though.

Anyone know if there's a cross-reference for this? I seem to recall there was...

The only issue would be drivers. Check device manager (if it boots successfully) for hardware that cannot find its drivers.
