DVD Codecs fof Vista upgrade?

Hey guys (and gals),

I upgraded to Vista through the Lenovo free offer. Anyone who did the same knows that there are no codecs to play DVDs. I tried downloading the CCC codecs, but no luck. I called Sonic, and they were like "nope, you have to pay".

so, does anyone have a suggestion as to which codec to install on a Vista upgrade?

If you're looking to get the DVD function through Windows Media Player, there is a plugin you can purchase from Cineplayer. CCCP work, but you have to use Media Player Classic.

Do a google search for VLC player.

Or just buy a copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD, it comes with its own mpeg 2 codec.

I have never paid nor will I for a codec!

I give a second vote for VLC.

I have also used the K-lite codec packs for years. I can't remember if I installed the K-lite pack on my HP Vista machine, but VLC worked well for me with Vista and XP.
