Installing a bigger hard drive in XP

#1 Post by rattlehead » Sun Jun 03, 2007 3:46 pm

I have a T22. It has a 12 GB hard drive in it and I am going to want to put a bigger one in it. I have a hard drive carrier for the T series cd bay. What software utility will allow me to transfer all of the data intact to the new hdd and extend the partition for me in XP? I used to do it with Ghost but the version I have is not compatible with the XP version of NTFS for some reason or other. Anyone have sugestions? The less cost involved the better.

Here's the Lenovo page on how to remove and replace the hard drive on the T30:

The T20/21/22/23 models are identical in this procedure, and here's the appropriate page:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4PEHK4

Have to admit, I didn't even know where the thing was until I saw this page - it's not like on my old 600e where the HD bay was clearly visible on the front of the machine! Anyway, this page is very good at going through the procedure step by step; there's even a short movie to show you how to do it.

I assume that with the new HD, a Ultrabay 2000 caddy for the drive and Acronis True Image, you could do it yourself - an attractive proposition for somebody who has to save money. Is there a thread on how to change the HD and copy over the XP OS and data?

Will this software work on multiple partitions? My hdd is sectioned into 3 partitions, 1 for os and applications, one for a swap, and one for data files, documents and music. I want to be able to move them all and set up the new sizes myself. Will this software do that for me?
