T42-is this a good deal?

#1 Post by ll357355 » Sun Jun 03, 2007 4:14 pm

I just purchased this laptop from eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0120059006

I currently own a work issued T42, and have previously owned R51 and T41, so I'm quite familiar with these.

I wanted to find out if this was a good deal. Also I wanted to find out how good the flex view 15 inch screen was compared to the 14 inch XGA.

I was initially going to purchase the T61 from Lenovo, but it would have been more than twice the cost, and I already have all the accessories for the T42 (extended battery, docking station etc.).

Thanks in advance

I think $629 is pretty good, but I'm not really an expert on T4x prices.

But the FlexView IPS screen is definitely very, very nice, with the best colour reproduction and viewing angles in the business. Looks like a very good system overall.

Is it a 'good deal?' - from this side of the Atlantic it is an absolute bargain. A used T42 with a lower spec went on ebay.uk for $710 today. I'm tempted to put my T42 on ebay and get one!

I believe this is a reasonable price. I just bought an "IBM Factory Sealed and IBM Certified!" R50p and it has a brandnew battery and a brandnew keyboard (i.e. no shiny keys), and the screen looks very good, but most other parts of the machine are obviously used, including a few scratches. The Win XP Pro COA and several other stickers on the bottom of the laptop are quite worn out. But for the most part I am happy with it.

This T42 is also used. It's just like those used Thinkpads sold on the IBM Certified Used Equipment site.

well i think it's a decent price for sure. I've seen better prices but i considered those to be OMG steal! I saw a T43 with good specs sell on ebay for $540 US. I was like i wish i was in on that because i bought my T42 for $650!! This was good tho because i got alot of lil toys with it and it's shell seems new to say the least.
