#1 Post by skitty4gzus » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:26 pm

I forgot the password for my wireless connection, and i also forgot the password and user name to get into the router setup. This is super bad or what? Is there anyway to fix this and reset the router or retrieve the password? wow i cant believe i did this!

\download the users manual from the mfr. website and it will explain to you how to reset the router back to factory settings, that's about the easiest way to get back into it.

Unplug the router for several days if you cannot locate the hard reset method. Most routers can be reset to factory settings which includes factory admin password (if any) ... JDH

on the smaller 5 ports there is usually a little detent button, you press and hold for a few seconds, some of them you hold the button while plugging in the dc power, there are a few different methods.

I love how easy it is to circumvent wireless security...turn it off, hold in the button on the back.

I guess the real problem is keeping the router in a secure location, if necessary.

I have a Netgear, and on mine there is a small reset button in the center of the back side. I am not currently at home to look at the router, but I think the reset button is inside a small hole.
Netgear wrote:To restore the factory default configuration settings without knowing the administration password
or IP address, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router.
1. Press and hold the Default Reset button until the Test LED turns on (about 10 seconds).
2. Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.

All security is basicaly non-existant if someone has access to your equipment.

Use the default IP address of the router and pull it up in your web browser there should be a section in there for gaming, which i don't do so don't have a clue which port you need to use, check google maybe.

im aware of router setup, i use wep and mac address filter. the only issues i have with the port triggering, is if im doing it right. I can never get the xbox 360 to pass the NAT test, which i blame on the port triggering. If anybody is familiar with Netgear router setup and the port triggering functions please help. I know which ports to open, but its just not that easy setting the correct values in the right fields in the setup.
