New to Thinkpad T-20 and I think the motherboard is bad.

#1 Post by SocalT20 » Tue Oct 12, 2004 1:15 am

Hello all,

My name is Mark and I just purchased a used T-20 about two weeks ago. It was private party sale and last night I went to turn it on and nothing. I only get a clicking sound from the HD and the power light flashes every time I push the power button. I took out the battery and reinserted into the machine nothing still. The only thing I did was place a Netgear Wireless 802.11b 16 bit card in it and I was surfing the web great. Could the wireless card cause the motherboard to fry?

Well I think I'm going to have to look for another ThinkPad or try to fix this one. What do you guys think I should do?

Please any ideas?

Thank you,

Mark  :?:

Take the card out and see what happens.

Try holding the power button down for more than 7 seconds. It may have gone into hibernation.

Are you getting the BIOS splash screen?

Is the clicking from the hard drive really loud? If so, the hard drive could be toast. Being that T20's are at least 4 years old - if that's the original drive, it could have gone bad.

[Shields]

Replace the CMOS battery, go into the BIOS and initiate the system and let us know what happens!
