In Greece they are selling a T61 with:

-15.4" 1920x1200
-nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M 128MB
-100GB 7200rpm disk

machine type: 6460-6XG and price around €2300, so i believe that is a T61p model. If only it had a 14.1" and a webcam, i think i d go for it

Why? All the Thinkpads look alike.

well the resolution on that one is great for me, but it'd just be nice to see or hear someone commenting on viewing pictures or movies on it, for example. If it has light leakage or low brightness, it might not be for me... :(

I disagree - each new model changes something, and moves further and further away from the T43 I fell so dearly in love with...

... I also want to see pictures. And where's the 14.1" 4:3 version?!

Amen... one of the things I miss in the T61 is the "edge" around the screen like the T43 has.

better specs

#9 Post by t41user » Fri Jun 29, 2007 3:52 pm

Only 128 video memory? I was hoping for 256.

1920 x 1200 screen? Possibly nice for various things, including the HD capability of the video card. However, might that resolution be too high for a 15.4 inch screen? Could that resolution be better suited to a 17 inch or larger screen?

Well, it's the end of June, with no T61p in sight. All the more reason to cry myself to sleep at night.

Good news is, ive been searching the Lenovo site every few days for T61p, and just a couple of days ago they released updated documentation for a lot of updates and software referencing the T61p. No hard information there, but they are definitely getting ready for release.

All I am saying is that the number of hits for T61p went from 6 to 68 on Lenovo.com a couple of days ago. Most of these hits are on pages for existing pieces of hardware and software, they merely added this model number into a list. Its soft evidence...

It is important to remember that this is a THINKPAD forum. While discussion of other laptops is understandably allowed, promoting the sale and purchase is kind of... out of place and, quite frankly, inappropriate. I understand your wanting answers and wanting to share knowledge, but you may want to consider doing that in a more appropriate place--such as a general purpose site like Notebook Review or NBF.

That being said... I've been waiting for the T61 since Spring. Why did I wait, when I could've purchased any other dozen of computers with identical equipment? Because a laptop is more than just the sum of its components. If you want my opinion... I would wait. Waiting to get a new laptop can be a frustrating experience but, in my opinion, its always worth waiting for something you know is going to last.

Cheers

I ll second that Red!
Look at me..
Sold my T41 to get a faster machine.
Toshiba had this GREAT in characteristics machine and i was in a hurry to get it. GF7600 graphics, with a Core2Duo CPU... what a combination!

What a terrible mistake that was.. the plastics were SOOOO cheap, the whole thing wobled like a jello when i carried it around in one hand and when i carried around in my bag (which is a Thinkpad Backpack) when i took it out to work, the screen was FULL of key-marks on it. Not to mention how much the glossy screen sucked at daylight in the office...

You need to go through such an experience, so you appreciate how good Thinkpads are :)

So go ahead, get a Dell, Tosh, HP ... it will just make you love Thinkpads more :D :D
T21 (Sold)
T40 (Sold)
T41 (best machine i ever had, Sold)
Toshiba Satellite (what a mistake, sold)
Thinkpad Z61t (brilliant machine, went to my father)
Got my T61 :)

4:3 Screen on t61

#17 Post by pheos » Tue Jul 03, 2007 11:02 pm

Ok so once again is there going to be a 4:3 screen version??
It would seriously suck if not! I mean I found a 14" t61with a resolution of 1024 x 768 on the web but a not widescreen would change the whole case and stuff.

Why cant they just take the housings form the t41p series, put the new stuff in there, add a firewire port and I'm the happiest person in the wordl! I would even pay a couple houndred bucks more for that!!

There are 4:3 T61's listed in the tabook, take a look.

However, when i called Lenovo to ask when they will be available the rep stated that they aren't making anymore 4:3's and going with the industry standard wide screens. So i told him that there were already a few 4:3's listed in the tabook and he tells me "oh that is a mistake"......... uhhhhh ok.

Seems i get a different story from every rep i talk to. What in the world is going on here???

Discontinuing the same laptops that made IBM famous is suicide.

I wouldn't worry too much. European prices are usually quite higher, and in some countries more than in others.

Well I'm kinda relieved now,
The chart overview for the T series on the german lenovo page
shows a definite availability for the t61p in 14.1" standard size!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but i think you misread the t60p column as t61p.

The T61P look very expensive in Canadian $...maybe a T60P can do the job...

Also, they seem to have different hardware...the T61 seems to come with the Turbo caching technology with a HDD of 5400RPM and the T61P come with a 7200 RPM...

But a T61P will rock solide :)

If you have the money go for it :)

As I've said, it's normal for Europe (we Europeans always get screwed on price): on Lenovo's German site, T61 which costs 1765 CAD (Ontario taxes included, both Visa and current Canada day discounts which bring it down to 1595 CAD excluded) is listed at € 1957.55, which is approximatively 60% more than in Canada. Since T61p listed in Poland costs between € 2500-2800, I don't expect it to be nearly as much in Canada and even less in USA.

(Regarding Turbo cache, I will certainly not lose any sleep over it, and until the technology shows a significant advantage, I don't think anyone should.)

Also, this new gadget doesn't boot with a Linux distribution.

You get stuck with any boot Cd with that.

Gentoo,Debian,Knoppix, named it....no distribution can boot a computer with this technology.

Are you talking about Intel turbo memory/caching? It can be disabled.
