X61s 7669-45U

#1 Post by rkanazawa » Tue Jun 05, 2007 7:31 pm

Didn't have to wait for shipping since I picked a TopSeller model that the local warehouse had in stock.
Was able to pick-up my new X61s directly from the Distributor this morning. So far it seems to run more quickly than my X60s.
Anyone able to downgrade Vista to XP Pro successfully?

Are you in the US? Where did you pick it up?

His profile says Redwood City, CA. On the other hand, yours does not have any location info at all. Please do update your profile!

My office is in Redwood City, but I picked the unit up in Fremont. If you would like send me your contact information and I will get him in touch with you.

Hi rk

I'm holidaying in SF in yearly July and plan on picking one up. I am looking for shops beforehand, so I would like to know exactly where you found it? And how much did you pay?

Shops in SF

Send me your e-mail and I will forward you the information.
I bought one that was already configured... the TopSeller program so they had 30+ in the warehouse. This might be a good option for you since you can order it and have it ready. Last time I ordered a CTO product it took four weeks... quoted was only two weeks. You just have to like whatever is in stock. There is a large warehouse in Fremont... anout forty minutes south of San Francisco.
So far I love this new machine... you may not be able to use the wireless wwan since it is tied to either Verizon or Cingular.
I paid $2,200.00 for the unit that I bought.

Does it still have the IBM logo on the machine and the lid?

Yes, it still has the IBM ThinkPad logo on the right palmrest and on the lid. Everything looks exactly like my x60s... except the vents under the right palmrest... ant. for the wwan has an extendable section... and no infrared.
So far I like the machine. But my use is pretty simple... standard office applications plus DameWare and Citrix use.

Since you mentioned, could you comment on the right palm overheat problem? Does the new vent solve the problem? thanks.

also, can you comment on the ultraconnect antenna (that thing with the extendable antenna you mentioned).

does it add a bulge to the corner of the lid? i ask because i am not going to be using WAN, but the only way to get the 1.6GHz processor is to get the ultraconnect antenna, but i'm not too excited about having a bulge in the corner of my laptop that i won't be using.

thanks!

Interesting...Lenovo's website shows the "ThinkPad/Lenovo" logo on the X61 models.

Well, I am looking at my new x61s and in both places it shows IBM ThinkPad... right above the ThinkVantage button it is now labelled X61s and next to it it does say lenovo now.

Regarding the ant... I think the bulge is only there when you specify the Verizon or Cingular wwan. I have always used a pc card but am quite pleased with the built-in since I don't have to worry about carrying one more device.

rkanazawa, i see that you have both an x60s and an x61s.

for someone who just received an x60s and hasn't opened it yet, would it be worth returning and going through the hassle of getting my money credited back to receive the x61s?

the person i am asking for is just a normal user, who doesn't really use the laptop for advanced stuff. for everyday computing, does the x61s seem faster and "better" than the x60s?

X60s vs X61s

#14 Post by rkanazawa » Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:28 pm

Well, I like some of the features of the newer x61s. I only changed because my wife decided she wanted a new laptop and took my X60s.
For the type of work that I do both are way more than adequate. I take my laptop with me all the time and love the size of the X6x series. I am spoiled since I have a T60p for use in the office or when I have to run more intensive operations.
To answer your questions personally I would change it since I plan on keeping this X61s for at least two years and bought mine with an eye towards what I will need in the future to keep it up to date. I was going to purchase an x60s last month but decided to wait for the x61s since I knew it would have some improvements over the prior model.
I found the model that I liked in stock in a local warehouse and bought it and was able to pick it up the same day.
