T43-2668 Memory Upgrade to 2 GB...Help needed in selecting
Hii Guys...
I have a T-43 2668 Thinkpad with current memory being 1 GB( 2 * 512 MB).
Currently I have a DB2 and Oracle databases installed with few integration softwares running which are demanding very high memory usage.
I would like to go for an upgrade to 2 GB.
I have 2 Questions.
1.There are many vendors in the market giving the same specifications but I would like to know which brand really gives me the best performance on my thinkpad.
2.IBM recommeds PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM ram.
In some threads i have read some posts where some users went for PC2-5300 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM Memory and everything was working fine.
What is the big difference between these 2 and Will there be any better performace for the 667 MHz Ram?..
I would be very thankful to all the thinkpad gurus here who can suggest me regardng this.
Regards,
veer

If your T43 is still under warranty, order it from IBM/Lenovo which will cost you more than buying 3rd party RAMs. But it won't void your warranty.
Otherwise you can go for one of Kingston, Corsair, GeIL or Hynix. They are all good brands. Anyway, most of them use Samsung chips on their RAMS. Only matter is depends on their production/quality control I guess.
T43 supports two of 1GB DDR II SDRAM 533 MHz (PC2-4200), PC2-5300 667Mhz RAMs are backward compatible so it won't be a problem. You may go for cheaper one as you wish.
If you use a lots of transactions (read/write on your HD) on DB, you may consider to upgrade your HD to 7200RPM. It helps a lot too.
