What's the resolution of the movies? If it's somewhere beyond about 400x300 pixels or so, you'll have to set the color depth to 16bit in order for the video to be displayed in an overlay. Otherwise software rendering will jump in and the video will play jerky. If that doesn't help, it's very likely that the resolution and/or compression ratio of your video files is too high and the CPU isn't powerful enough to decode them in time. In this case you could try to reduce the rendering quality in the DIVX decoder settings or, as a last resort, consider trying the less resource-hungry fddshow as a substitute. You also might want to check if you're running unnecessary background tasks that impede your computer's performance.

Or you can go get a Margi DVD to Go card and it will do the decoding, I have used one in a TP600 with a 366 PII and it is perfectly smooth at fullscreen.

I have a 570 with exactly the same specs running XP Pro and DivX3- to 5-encoded files play just fine. They're only around 352x288 pixels, though.

I don't have one, but I doubt that it will help with playing DivX-encoded files. It's only an MPEG2-decoder (for DVDs), but DivX is an MPEG4 derivative.

Are you running some Adobe software on your TP 570 like PhotoShop? I once had the same problem and it was caused by the special color calibration utility that stays in the background, "adobegamma" or "adobegammaloader" or something like that.

Install as driver for better perfomance.
